Indigenous & Cultural Volunteer Program
A Volunteer Journey That Actually Makes a Difference
Costa Rica · April 27–May 6, 2026 · 10 Days
Some trips change your photos.
Some trips change you.
This journey exists for people who want to give something real, not just take memories home.
For ten days, you’ll live, work, learn, and slow down alongside Indigenous communities in Costa Rica — offering your time, your presence, and your energy in ways that genuinely support community growth.
This isn’t about saving anyone.
It’s about showing up with humility and heart — and letting that experience change you too.
Why This Matters
Indigenous communities hold deep wisdom, resilience, and connection to the land — but like many communities around the world, they face ongoing challenges created by modern systems they did not choose.
What they’ve asked for isn’t charity.
It’s relationship.
This journey was created so volunteers can:
-
Support Indigenous-led initiatives in a meaningful way
-
Learn directly from elders, families, and community members
-
Contribute time and effort where it’s actually needed
-
Help strengthen cultural preservation and local sustainability
Your presence matters here.
Your work matters here.
And the impact continues long after you leave.
What You’ll Be Doing
Working With the Boruca Tribe
This is where your contribution becomes tangible.
You’ll spend several days with the Boruca Indigenous community, volunteering alongside local families on projects chosen by the community themselves. This is hands-on work — the kind that requires effort, care, and cooperation.
You’ll share space, stories, and daily life.
You’ll work, laugh, learn, and eat together.
Alongside volunteering, you’ll also be welcomed into cultural workshops led by the Boruca people — mask carving, cacao preparation, medicinal plants, weaving, and traditional food. These aren’t demonstrations. They’re shared knowledge.
Learning With the Maleku Tribe
You’ll also spend a full day with the Maleku people, learning about their history, traditions, and relationship to the land.
You’ll hear stories passed down through generations, learn about medicinal plants, take part in ceremony, and share a traditional meal. This day is about listening — and honoring the voices of the people who live here.
Time to Restore
Giving takes energy — and this journey honors that.
Between volunteer days, you’ll have space to rest and integrate:
-
Soaking in natural volcanic hot springs, rich in minerals from the earth
-
Walking through rainforests and over hanging bridges
-
Visiting waterfalls and sacred landscapes
These moments aren’t distractions.
They help your body and nervous system recover, so you can show up fully again.
Honoring the Land & Its History
You’ll visit important cultural and historical sites, including UNESCO-recognized areas, and learn about the ancient stone spheres found across Costa Rica — powerful reminders of the civilizations that lived here long before modern borders existed.
This part of the journey deepens your understanding of the land you’re walking on — and why protecting it matters.
